When consumed within a certain dosage, thecooking saltit is not harmful. The problem is that most of the products we find on the market are enriched with salt, so, unwittingly, we find ourselves ingesting much more salt than we should.

Those suffering from hyperthyroidism and high blood pressure should refrain from the consumption of salt and pay particular attention to pre-packaged foods, baked goods and particularly refined foods: salt can hide everywhere!

When we are in the kitchen, however, we decide where to add a pinch of salt or, more wisely, where to use a 'natural alternative to salt.

How to replace salt in the kitchen

  • Herbs
    Aromatic herbs are a real panacea for health and are able to flavor any dish in a natural way. They are ideal for replacing salt in the kitchen and the choice of flavors is very rich!
  • Vinegar
    Vinegar is a condiment that, when raw, can replace salt and oil. Apple cider vinegar, for example, is a valid substitute for salt in salads: it enhances the flavor of vegetables without covering it.

  • Black salt from Hawaii
    It involves fewer risks for arterial hypertension than traditional sea salt, however its consumption must always be moderated. Black salt from Hawaii is popular for its detoxifying properties: it is enriched with mineral elements of volcanic lava and activated carbon.
  • Miso
    Not recommended for those suffering from blood pressure, in fact themisois a preparation based on soy, cereals and sea salt.
  • Soy sauce
    Absolutely not recommended for those suffering from hypertension or thyroid problems. Soy sauce, although mentioned among the salt substitutes in the kitchen ... is rich in salt. :) We count it, as done for miso, just for the record.
  • Pink Himalayan salt
    Himalayan salt is not recommended for those suffering from hypertension, thyroid disorders or for those with water retention problems, however, for those looking for alternatives to table salt, it can be useful.
  • Essential oils
    Yes, it is possible to use essential oils for food use. Theessential oils in cooking they can be excellent substitutes for salt.
  • Lemon
    Lemon juice is a fresh natural alternative to salt. Very useful for flavoring meat and fish, also loved on cooked and raw vegetables!
  • Gomasio
    Like soy and miso, this dressing is also rich in salt. Gomasio is a typical Japanese condiment based on toasted sesame seeds. It is not suitable for those who cannot consume salt for health reasons.
  • Turmeric
    Spice with many beneficial properties, characterized by an intense yellow color, is a useful condiment for dishes of all kinds.

If you suffer from hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure or any other organic dysfunction, the wisest thing to do is to make an appointment with an expert nutritionist who will be able to suggest an ad hoc food table. There are many dysfunctions that can be treated with the diet, plus the diet can be an excellent adjuvant to treatments already in place.
