With the new headquarters, 7Pixel is a true example of eco-sustainable company: from photovoltaic panels to heating, from materials to energy, all chosen from a perspective eco friendly and of maximum integration with the territory, both from an environmental and architectural point of view. Paolo Cereda, co-founder and marketing director of 7Pixel tells how they converted to eco-sustainable company.
1) When you were born, what activities do you do?
In 2002 with the launch of Trovaprezzo, a search engine for online shopping that allows you to compare prices and products and identify the best value for money. In 2005 it was the turn of Shoppydoo, based on product research. Following this, Drezzy in 2011 and Misshobby in 2012 expand the target to the female world. Today ours eco-sustainable company it has a total of approximately ten and a half million unique monthly users. We are five partners, the same ones who founded the company which today, between Italy and abroad, has 110 employees.
2) When did you design the new headquarters and what are the construction times?
In 2009, the project to become part of the eco-sustainable companies of the country. Of the three planned, the first lot was completed in 2012; in 2013 the construction of lots two and three will start. The style of construction is neorural, with the construction of new buildings that partly reflect the typical characteristics of theLombard rural architecture revised in part in a modern key, with the inclusion of curved surfaces, windows and other elements that characterize the new vocation of the traditional farmhouse.
3) Where is it located, how big will it be and how much have you invested?
In Giussago, in the province of Pavia, the new one eco-sustainable headquarters it is located in via Lanzoni, a new road that branches off from the external ring road of the capital; was built on a square-shaped area of an area of about 33 thousand square meters, adjacent to the agricultural area. The first lot is spread over three floors for a useful area of approximately 1,700 square meters. The second and third lots, close to completion, will develop on a total area of 2 thousand square meters. Indicatively, to become eco-sustainable company, the investment made amounts to over 7 million euros.
4) In what percentage do you plan to cover the energy needs of the office with renewable energy sources?
The site is equipped with an electric heat pump air conditioning system, combined with a conventional natural gas boiler system for the winter period. The installation of photovoltaic panels on the canopies of the car parks it guarantees coverage of the electricity needs of the heat pump and the total consumption of energy used by the buildings, obviously in sunny periods. To provide a correct percentage we have to wait for the realization of the other two lots which will modify this balance.
5) How many photovoltaic panels have you installed? With what results?
About 800 square meters of photovoltaic solar panels have been installed on the shelters covering the parking spaces of the internal car park, which with their 100 Kw of peak power guarantee the energy needs of the office.
6) What will the heating and air conditioning system be like?
To respect the logic of eco-sustainable company a hybrid air conditioning system was created, by combining an electric heat pump and a natural gas boiler, with two storage tanks: one for water for heating and one for cooling water. The plant management system automatically modulates the two generators based on the seasons and the external temperature detected, in order to maximize their performance, thereby optimizing consumption. The whole system is managed by software with a bus system, which allows users to intervene locally to increase the thermal comfort.
7) How did you choose the materials?
The choice of materials was conditioned by the use of materials eco-sustainable: wood for the load-bearing structures of the roofs, brick for the roofing mantles and load-bearing or dividing walls, aluminum for the windows and windows. All to allow the highest recovery and recycling of raw materials at the end of the building's life cycle. The building envelope, as a whole, has been designed to minimize winter heat loss, and solar gain in the summer months, as well as the orientation in the lot of the buildings. The windows are equipped with triple low-emissivity glass, with double thermal imaging camera equipped with noble gases. The walls, roofs and floor of the ground floor require considerable thicknesses of thermal insulation.
