How to make dish and dishwasher detergent
Thisdo-it-yourself dish soapit can be used both by hand and in the dishwasher. For use in the dishwasher, use 2 tablespoons but remember that this detergent must not be mixed with industrial detergents. By hand, it can be mixed with a few drops of industrial detergent only for dishes that require a high degreasing action.
What do you need?
- 500 - 600 g of lemons
- 360 ml of water
- 200 g of salt
- 150 ml of vinegar
Cut the lemons into small pieces and remove the seeds. Blend with a little water until you get a coarse mush. Add the remaining water, vinegar and salt. Boil for 10 minutes, stirring so as not to adhere the preparation to the sides of the pot. Wait until the mixture is cold to blend it again. Boil the mixture again until you have a cream. Store in hermetically sealed glass jars and in a cool place.
Know that the lemon will need the juice, the spongier white part and the peel. You won't need the fibrous part, so if you prefer you can press the lemons to remove the juice. Remove the fibrous part and blend only the peel and the spongy part (the white part connected to the peel). If you proceed in this way, the juice will have to be added later, together with the vinegar.

If you have a fireplace, you can use the ash to make the lye.
How to make laundry detergent
To use this homemade detergent, stick to the dosage of 30 ml for use in the washing machine. By hand, 10 ml will suffice for 10 liters of water.
- 100 g of Marseille soap in flakes
- 1 liter of distilled water
- 40 g of potash
- 2 ml of essential oil of your choice to perfume
Boil the soap flakes, potash and water until the flavor has completely dissolved. Let the mixture cool. Add the essential oil and mix carefully. Pass the detergent into the blender. You can prepare large bottles as thishomemade detergentcan be stored for 3 months.
Where to find potash?
Potash, or potassium hydroxide, is not commonly found on the market. It can be purchased online where a 1 kg jar costs around 10 euros.
